An extraordinary combination of vocal brilliance and power, versatility, stage magnetism and striking physical beauty, soprano Amy Johnson is making a profound impact on the operatic scene. Her silver edged soprano portrays youth yet has ample power to soar over the largest orchestra. Ms. Johnson has earned special acclaim for her portrayal of the title role in Puccini’s Tosca, which she has performed with Glimmerglass Opera, New York City Opera (also broadcast on PBS' Live from Lincoln Center), Palm Beach Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Indianapolis Opera, Spier Festival in South Africa, Arizona Opera, Nashville Opera, Kentucky Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, Greensboro Opera, El Paso Opera, Kentucky Symphony and Opera Tampa.

Ever expanding her artistic and vocal horizons, Ms. Johnson (in collaboration with Impresario Productions and Video Ideas Productions) has created a new, cutting-edge and experimental idea – Twisted Sisters. In a fully staged evening of operatic “mad scenes” performed with orchestra, incorporating interactive projected film images, the artist again exhibits her singular versatility in excerpts from Lucia di Lammermoor, Mefistofele and Salome. The project premiered this past January to critical acclaim in performances with Kentucky Symphony, J. R. Cassidy conducting.
Ms. Johnson made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2006 singing the Beethoven Symphony No. 9 in a benefit for the South Asia earthquake victims alongside instrumentalists from the New York Philharmonic and other major orchestras. Other concert appearances include the BBC Proms Concerts at Royal Albert Hall (Simón Bolívar), the Women's Philharmonic of San Francisco (world premiere of Thea Musgrave's Three Women), Lulu Suite with the Kentucky Symphony, Strauss' Four Last Songs with the Glacier Symphony Orchestra, a Wagnerian concert honoring the late heldentenor James King, a series of Christmas Concerts and an Opera Gala, both with the Riverside Symphonia of New Jersey, and the Evansville
Philharmonic's Christmas Pops Concerts, along with numerous recitals and master classes. In addition to the varied and extensive repertoire listed above, she is currently preparing new roles by Mozart, Strauss and Wagner.
Upcoming appearances for Ms. Johnson include Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana and the title role in Salome for Toledo Opera, Tosca and Strauss’ Four Last Songs with Rockford Symphony, Bernstein’s Kaddish Symphony with both the Winston-Salem and Portland (ME) Symphonies, Mimi in La bohème for West Virginia Symphony, several recital appearances under the sponsorship of Live on Stage, and the recording of her first solo CD.
